Good news for peninsula-based lovers of the Habit Burger chain! The company just opened a location in San Mateo, and having vastly enjoyed a Habit Burger during a recent trip to Santa Barbara, you can bet I’m excited about checking out one of the newest northern California locations.
With the recent opening of Five Guys not too far away in downtown Burlingame and In’N’Out also close by in both San Carlos and Millbrae, you may ask what sets the Habit apart. Well as a hamburger connoisseur, I can tell you a number of good things (although I still love Five Guys).
The Habit offers a different variety than Five Guys, and certainly more than In’N’Out, like onion rings which are always a nice option. The classic selection is the “Charbuger,” a hamburger which comes with mayonnaise, pickle, fresh tomato, lettuce and caramelized onions on a toasted bun. All the basics, and the caramelized onions are great, and you can easily add cheese. The quality is great and definitely habit-forming.
If you want something a little more exotic, Habit also offers Mushroom Swiss Char, Teriyaki Charburger or the BBQ Bacon Charburger. If you aren’t even a burger fan, there are chicken sandwiches, a tri-tip sandwich, a tuna sandwich and even salads.
Look for an official review in the coming weeks, and let us know what you think about the Habit and other growing hamburger chains.
