There are few sounds I enjoy more than the popping of bubbly. Let me rephrase that – there are no sounds I enjoy more. So, it will come as no surprise that I am often drawn to cocktails that feature champagne or prosecco. It makes everything feel like a celebration.
On a not so special day I hit up Chotto, the local izakaya (a Japanese drinking establishment that serves food). In this case, I actually went for the food, but was easily persuaded to take a look at the cocktail menu. Quickly, my eyes landed on the Yuzu, a fresh mixture of sake, yuzu juice, prosecco and honey.
Yuzu is a citrus fruit originating in East Asia that possesses a tart flavor like that of a lemon, which lends the cocktail a bright flavor. It is complimented by the floral taste from the honey. The slight sweetness of the prosecco is a nice balance to the sake, which can often be too dry for my taste.
The delightfulness of the Yuzu cocktail got me thinking what other sake based cocktails should I be trying (um, besides sake bombs)? Let me know what your favorite ones are in the comment section.
