On the eve of what is supposed to be one of the worst snowstorms in New England, it seems like an opportune time to have a drink, since I just happen to be in Boston.
What great timing.
At the regal Back Bay Social Club, aptly named for its Back Bay location, there are a number of specialty cocktails, mainly featuring whiskey. While whiskey is an appropriate winter liquor, I decided on the Cranberry Rosemary Smash – a mix of gin, rosemary, cranberry and lemon. No surprise here, but I’m always a fan of lemon and gin, and the savory and sweet additions of rosemary and cranberry were a great compliment to the old familiars. The drink is served with crushed ice, which is one of my very favorite ice forms, as it makes any drink feel like an adult slushee, and why not have an icy drink when preparing for icy weather? The pretty pink hue was also a great touch leading up to Valentine’s Day, so seasonally speaking, the Cranberry Rosemary Smash was a great choice, but I would recommend it any time of year.
