You know those days where you wake up and you already need a cupcake? There is a cupcake for that!
Cako has a Maple Bacon cupcake that is so delicious and surprisingly well-executed, it will make you rethink brunch, or at least brunch desserts. After a few previous bacon cupcake situations (don’t even ask), we were a little skeptical, but Cako usually delivers on the quality and creativity, and the Maple Bacon is no exception.
The cake was a nice, light vanilla flavor that didn’t overpower the star ingredients (you know, the bacon and maple), that was soft and delicious on its own. The frosting, which is where things can usually take a turn for the worst, was also just sweet and maple-y enough; nothing overpowering there! Then the pièce de résistance – the candied bacon bits and maple sauce. It was the right amount of slightly salty bacon and maple to pleasantly remind you of breakfast, but a pancakes or dessert at breakfast, not an omlette or scramble or something, like some of these other bacon cupcakes have brought to mind.
Overall, a great option for breakfast, or for someone who needs bacon on everything. Plus its a bargain at $3.25 and you can pick one up at the several Cako locations throughout downtown SF, San Jose or Oakland. And wait, there’s more! If you aren’t a cupcake person (?), Cako has a Maple Bacon gelato, too! Thanks, Cako!
