It’s been a busy few weeks! Well longer than that, since we haven’t posted in a little while (an admitted understatement). But last week we were flying across the country, to Atlanta and Chicago separately for work, so we were ready for some serious R&R that didn’t require an airplane.
Activities that are both exhilarating and relaxing are pretty much the definition of Instant Grativacation, so an opportunity to take a hot air balloon excursion with Balloons Above the Valley, as part of an awesome weekend in Napa hosted by Marriott Napa Valley, was just what we needed. Neither of us had given much thought to hot air ballooning previously, but once we received the invite, we couldn’t imagine our lives sans a balloon trip.
With the excitement building, what did we do to prepare? Not a whole lot. Sure, we could have read articles, even books, or talked to people who had been hot air ballooning previously, but there is something to be said about the element of surprise of an adventure. So, in light of our lack of preparation, we wanted to share a few tips from our experience:
The good news is that the view from the balloon is breathtaking (in a good way) and you can relax while taking in the peaceful landscape and watching the other balloons soar across the sky. It was smooth sailing, until a slightly bumpy landing, and even passengers with a fear of heights were champs. Overall, it was a fantastic adventure, and one we won’t soon forget, but make sure you are ready for anything! A good tip for traveling and life in general.
